Stone masonry

The tradition of stonemasonry is one of the most known and famous attributes of Brač, side by side with the beach of Zlatni rat. From ancient times, Brač was the primary source of top-notch stone, which was used for building a bundle of important buildings. The little town called Splitska is a significant antic source from where originates the stone which was used to make The Diocletian’s Palace in Split!

The need for stonemasons began in 1906 when the first courses for stonemasonry started in Pučišća and Selca, and from then only started growing. The high school, as we know it today, was established in 1956 with the headquarters in Pučišće, and today it is the only school one in this part of Europe that is keeping this beautiful tradion alive.
